Hi! I'm Sophie, the artist behind Lucky Shot Studio.
While studying Interior Design at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology I worked in bars and cafes, where i quickly found my favourite place to be was decorating the chalkboards. Following that I spent my twenties travelling Canada, eventually discovered the craft of traditional sign painting and met some great mentors of the trade. Combining design, typography and technical knowledge to create unique and handmade designs instantly appealed to my love of the handmade and dedication to craft. In a world where mass production has congealed every shop front to look the same, sign painters keep the human spirit alive.
I would decribe my style has ornate but casual, influenced by Art Nouvea and Craftsman eras. I also like to use a lot of colour and bold graphic style in my murals. You may have seen some of my work at any of the Sprigs around the Nelson region while enjoying a crisp pint!
